Great Planes Pluma |
I thought this plane would be a good replacement for the GP Reflection that has been discontinued. Turns out, it really isn't. This is a slightly larger and much more fragile version of the Reflection. As long as this plane doesn't touch the ground (read, no rudder taps), and you use great care when transporting, it's a fairly fun plane.
07/08/08 - Ordered from Tower Hobbies
I hope to build this plane soon.
03/14/09 - Update
Over the past several months I have managed to get this plane built and
flown. As mentioned in my summary above, it's a bit fragile for my tastes.
I'll keep it until it is no longer worth repairing, but then I won't be buying
another.
05/20/09 - Pathetic end to a pathetic
plane
The most fragile plane I've every owned died a pathetic death today. I
was flying around, noticing that the wings were flexing under it's own weight.
There was a little more wind than this plane was most likely designed to handle.
I believe that wind was yanking the pathetic cross supports out of the pathetic
foam that was held with the pathetic glue. I decided I'd try a gentle
loop, then increase the throttle until the plane couldn't take any more.
On the first gentle loop, the wing collapsed. It was about 20 or 30 feet
up, over tall dead grass / weeds. There is video, but with no zoom
function, it is hard to see.
