Futaba 12ZH

I've been thinking about getting a new transmitter for a while, one with more
capability than my current 8UAPS. Since I just accepted a new job, I
figured I'd celebrate with this radio. I looked into the 9C as that's what
my friend chose, but I really like the frequency switching capability in the
12Z. I also looked at the 14MZ, but it's another $800 above the 12Z.
I ordered the 12ZH from Tower Hobbies. They had the best price and their
free delivery arrives in 2 days. Since today is Thursday, it'll arrive
Monday.

The radio arrived today, right on time. I looked through the radio
settings and read the entire manual. It's a steep learning curve to use
this radio, but that's because of all it's capabilities. I can even
re-assign the trims under the sticks to other functions. That's
flexibility! The manual, however, is ridiculous. It was obviously
written in Japanese originally, and poorly translated to English. Aside
from that, it's almost useless.
Here's an example out how this manual would direct you to bake
an apple pie:
Step 1) Get a baking pan
Step 2) Put the pie in the pan
Step 3) Bake the pie
As long as you know what goes into a pie, what temperature to bake it at, and how long to bake it, you're fine. But then you wouldn't have needed these instructions either. That's basically the entire manual. If you want to create a p-mix, go to the p-mix menu and create it. If you want to delete a p-mix, go to the p-mix menu and delete the p-mix. Gee, thanks for the help.
Conditions... Here's something I've never dealt with before. I went from a 4-channel analog controller, to an 8UAPS. Never had I seen "Conditions" before. The manual never talks about what a condition is, it just says you can make them. I searched the menus everywhere for Idle-ups and couldn't find them anywhere. Finally I stumbled on Conditions and found out I can create an Idle-1 Condition. Sure wish the manual had mentioned that.

The 1st craft I configured with this radio was the
Shogun. It took me about 2
hours to figure everything out. When I setup my
GPH346 (far more complex) it took me
about 20 minutes. The
Reflection airplane took less than 2 minutes and the
Dazzler airplane took about 10
minutes. It really is easy and fast to configure things, once you know
what you're doing, but the learning curve is steep.
